Oakley Wood is a small, privately-owned, area of native woodland within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Until recently, this woodland was neglected but a long-term management plan was developed for the site at the start of the millennium to protect and enhance the habitats. OCV have made significant contributions to increasing the biodiversity of a severely neglected and choked-up hazel coppice, through selectively coppicing to increase the amount of light reaching the woodland floor. Stakes removed when coppicing at this site have been re-used for the environmentally important work of hedgelaying around Oxfordshire. We have also cleared the grass rides, to allow access and to provide a valuable habitat free of invasive scrub for woodland flora and fauna.
