 Attention to detail

Job done, for today at least

 Holywell Cemetery, managed for wildlife...
...and a haven of tranquility for quiet contemplation.
Each mid-winter we clear some of the brambles between the memorials...
...and the ivy from off the memorials to stop them from disappearing entirely.
 Some unexpected winter sunshine.
At the end of the day a large area of brambles has been cleared...
...and other wild flowers will have an opportunity to grow before the brambles return once more.

Work under way on the wall
 Mixing lime mortar
We had to cover the wall as we went along, because of the rain!
 The rain was very persistent
Protecting our handiwork with plastic weighed down by smaller stones
These errant stones have escaped from the wall at Holywell
The escaping stones have left a gap in the boundary
Never fear, OCV volunteers are here! Lime mortar is mixed in buckets
The raw materials are mixed into a thick paste. This'll keep those pesky stones in place
The first layer of stones has been put back in place
A good flat layer makes a solid base for the next layer
Sometimes old mortar or annoying corners are removed with a chisel
Lime mortar is indistinguishable from OCV porridge (come on a resi if you don't believe me)
These stones are now back in their rightful places
Plastic sheeting to make sure the mortar sets solid

Michelle sneaks up behind Peter with loppers - fancy a haircut Peter?
All the old headstones are leaning at interesting angles
 Bonfire - plus rainbow!
Brambles and ivy cleared from the headstones needed to be burnt
 The bonfire raged...
Volunteers survey their handiwork as the bonfire dies down
