Port Meadow is the largest area of common land in Oxford, and was traditionally used for grazing. Freemen and the Commoners of Wolvercote have grazing rights that are still exercised today.
It is 440 acres of flat meadow next to the river in the North of Oxford that floods for a large part of the year, bringing flocks of migratory birds to the site.
Port Meadow is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), whilst the burial ground and ancient earthworks within the the site are a scheduled monument.
Directions
Follow Walton Well Road over the bridges to the car park at the end of the road, which is often the meeting place. The car park isn't great for tasks as it can be very expensive for long stays.
