Sustrans is the UK's leading sustainable transport charity. One of their numerous tasks is to maintain the National Cycle Network. OCV have worked with Sustrans at a few locations within Oxfordshire, particularly an 11 mile cycle path between Wantage and Didcot that has been proposed as a County Wildlife Site on account of the rare chalk grassland habitat. This site supports a diverse range of rare flora and insects, particularly hymenoptera (bees, wasps, ants and flies) and butterflies. Exposed, chalky banks such as those on the old railway cutting on which the cycle path is sited, are especially important for the perfect habitat that they provide for a large variety of species of solitary bees and wasps. OCV have worked on this stretch of cycle path in order to remove the invasive scrub and allow these rare species to continue to thrive at the site.
